Mainland travellers who engage in “inappropriate and rude behaviour that could affect safety” at Beijing’s main airport could be barred from joining group tours or even buying plane tickets, local media reported on Wednesday.

According to The Beijing News, the city’s tourism development committee and the company that manages security at the airport signed an initial deal on Wednesday, agreeing that travellers who acted in an uncivilised manner and deemed a security risk would have their personal information and actions recorded in database.

The two parties would have access to the information.

Individuals blacklisted on this system could face restrictions to their travel, including being barred from joining tour groups.

The deal was signed by the Beijing Tourism Development Committee and the Beijing Capital Airport Aeronautics Security Protection Company.

The mainland is trying to curb inappropriate behaviour by its nationals travelling both home and abroad. It has launched a national blacklist, which currently has 16 names of offenders, although the penalty for inclusion on the list has not been made public.
