Vice President Condoles the Demise of Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam, Former President of India

The Vice President of India Shri M. Hamid Ansari has condoled the sudden and untimely demise of former President of India Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. In his condolence message, he has said that Dr. Kalam was a true son of India and his contributions to the nation, in his capacity as a man of technology, a teacher and a leader will be deeply cherished by a grateful nation. The guide of India’s space and missile programs, Dr. Kalam’s efforts saw India become a front ranking power in these spheres.


He said that Dr. Kalam was also a visionary, with a deep conviction to see India emerging stronger, more peaceful and more equitable through the use of science and technology. He personified humility and boundless curiosity. His life will remain an inspiration to the millions of youth in the country.

Following is the text of the Vice President’s condolence message :

“I am saddened to learn of the sudden and untimely demise of former President of India Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam earlier today. Dr. Kalam was a true son of India and his contributions to the nation, in his capacity as a man of technology, a teacher and a leader will be deeply cherished by a grateful nation. The guide of India’s space and missile programs, Dr. Kalam’s efforts saw India become a front ranking power in these spheres.

PM condoles the passing away of former President of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam


The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has condoled the passing away of former President of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.

"India mourns the loss of a great scientist, a wonderful President and above all an inspiring individual. Rest in peace Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.

Dr. Kalam…my mind is filled with so many memories, so many interactions with him. Always marvelled at his intellect, learnt so much from him.

Dr. Kalam enjoyed being with people; people and youngsters adored him. He loved students and spent his final moments among them", the Prime Minister said.

Javadekar Condoles Abdul Kalam’s Demise
The Minister of State (Independent Charge), Shri Prakash Javadekar has condoled the demise of former President of India, Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam today. In a condolence message, Shri Javadekar said that in the passing away of Dr. Kalam, we have lost a visionary leader.

“Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam sowed millions of dreams in young minds. He was a passionate scientist and a wonderful human being. He ingrained Vision 2020 and Vision 2025 in every mind. He was a great patriot and scientist was instrumental in launching India’s first Satellite Launch Vehicle (SLV) and development of ballistic missiles under the Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme. His demise was shocking for me, as today only I had signed the file to invite him for G.B Pant Memorial Lecture. May Dr. Kalam’s soul rest in peace,” Shri Javadekar added.

Former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam passes away today


The government of India announces with profound sorrow the death of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Former President of India at Bethany Hospital, Shillong at 1945 hours, today.

As a mark of respect to the departed dignitary, seven days state mourning will be observed throughout India from July 27, 2015 to August 2, 2015, both days inclusive. During the period of state mourning, the national flag will fly at half mast on all buildings throughout India where it is flown regularly and there will be no official entertainment.

The date, time and venue of the state funeral will be intimated later.
