President of India hosts a reception at Rashtrapati Nilayam for dignitaries of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh 

The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee hosted a Reception today (July 7,2015) for senior dignitaries of the States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and public at Rashtrapati Nilayam, Secunderabad on the eve of his departure back to Delhi after a ten day sojourn.

Guests who attended the Reception included Shri ESL Narasimhan, Governor of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh; Shri K Chandrasekhar Rao, Chief Minister of Telangana; Shri Bandaru Dattatreya, Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Labour and Employment; Shri K Swamy Goud, Chairman, Legislative Council of Telangana; Shri S Madhusudhana Chary, Speaker, Legislative Assembly of Telangana; Shri Justice Dilip Babasaheb Bhosale, Chief Justice of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh High Court; Shri K Jana Reddy, Leader of Opposition, Legislative Assembly of Telangana and Dr. A Chakrapani, Chairman, Legislative Council of Andhra Pradesh. 

PM’s remarks at the India-Kazakhstan Business Roundtable 

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, today called for stepping up economic engagement between India and Kazakhstan in a big way. Addressing a business roundtable attended by members of the business community from both India and Kazakhstan, the Prime Minister praised the huge strides made by Kazakhstan in economic progress over the last decade. Noting that Kazakhstan has been blessed with vast natural resources, the Prime Minister emphasized that India has huge demand for these resources, and therefore, both countries have a great potential for partnership. 

The Prime Minister called for enhanced investment from Kazakh companies in India, particularly in the areas of renewable energy, smart cities, housing, and railways. He said Kazakhstan could benefit from partnerships with Indian companies, which will bring in modern technology, engineering skills and cost effective mechanisms. He said Kazakhstan could also benefit from India’s strength in the Information Technology sector. He said poor connectivity was the biggest barrier to deepening of economic engagement between the two countries, and called for enhanced connectivity between India and Kazakhstan. 

Shri Narendra Modi, and the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Mr. Karim Massimov, also witnessed the commencement of drilling at the Satpayev Exploration Block, where ONGC Videsh Ltd has a significant stake. 


The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved the Central Sector Scheme for promotion on National Agriculture Market through Agritech Infrastructure Fund with a budget allocation of Rs. 200 crores on 01st July, 2015. The Scheme entails setting up of a common e platform and its deployment in 585 selected wholesale regulated markets across the country. Small Farmers’ Agribusiness Consortium (SFAC) has been identifying as the lead implementing agency for the national market. The Central Government will provide software free of costs to the States and also Rs. 30 lakhs for hardware per mandi for setting up related equipment/infrastructure.  

In order to orient the States and Union Territories (UTs) towards this initiative, the Union Agriculture Minister Shri Radha Mohan Singh will be leading a delegation of Ministers In-charge of Agriculture Marketing of States and UTs to Hubli, Karnataka, on 09th and 10th of July, 2015 to witness first hand the functioning of e-marketing platforms.

Karnataka has taken a lead in implementing trading of agricultural produce on e-platform by establishing a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), Rashtriya e Market Services Pvt. Ltd. (ReMS) as a joint venture company between Government of Karnataka and NCDEX Spot Exchange Ltd for the purpose. 

The Study visit on 9th and 10th   of July, 2015 will include presentation on Agricultural Market Reforms in Karnataka and familiarization with Unified Marketing Platform (UMP) and its modules. A visit to APMCs at Hubli and Sirsi is also scheduled to interact with market participants and observe the operation of UMP. The visit is expected to promote a better understanding of the way forward for implementation of the National Agriculture Market.


Dr. Mahesh Sharma Reviews Tourist Amenities at Kolkata Airport 

The Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Tourism and Culture (Independent Charge), Dr. Mahesh Sharma held a high level review meeting about tourist facilities today at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, Kolkata. The Airport Director, Shri A.K.Sharma informed the Minister that Kolkata Airport is handling 120 flights to different directions both in India and abroad every day. The Airport, in spite of all odds, is generating surplus for the last five years. The amount of surplus generated last year was to the tune of Rs. 326 crores, he added. The Minister asked the authorities to ensure basic facilities for tourists at the Airport. 

Later, the Minister took a round of the airport to take stock of the passenger amenities. He interacted with a section of the employees, staff of the private airlines and stalls to know about the details of facilities available for the tourists. He appreciated the quality of maintenance of Kolkata Airport and encouraged all to keep it up for the tourists. 

Dr. Mahesh Sharma takes stock of the working of Victoria Memorial and Asiatic Society at Kolkata; 

Assures all possible help to uphold the glory of the historic organizations 

The Minister of State for Tourism (Independent Charge), Culture (Independent Charge) and Civil Aviation, Dr. Mahesh Sharma, visited the Victoria Memorial Hall and Asiatic Society in Kolkata during his day long visit to the city today. On visiting the Victoria Memorial, an institution of 94 years, the Minister took a round to have a glimpse of the 28,394 objects including some priceless oil-paintings, on display at the historic museum. Addressing the officials, the Minister said that the Ministry of Culture is very keen to uphold the glory of the prestigious institution. He also assured to consider a demand of Rs.65 lakh for the up-gradation of its attractive Light and Sound Show to the 3D version.
            Later, Dr Mahesh Sharma visited the Asiatic Society, the foremost institution of national heritage in the country, to take stock of the situation there. The Minister held a meeting with the members, staff and officers of the organization to assess the areas in which improvement is required . He assured them a possible two-fold increase in the annual allocation for the great institution.
Dr. Sharma also discussed the various problems and issues concerning the Museum and other wings of Asiatic Society and assured all help to the officials to sort them out at the earliest.

Indian Navy to Conduct Seminar on Innovation and Indigenisation 

In pursuance of the Govt of India’s ‘Make in India’ policy and the Indian Navy’s quest for ‘Self Reliance through Indigenous Development’, a seminar titled “Innovation and Indigenisation – Sailing towards Self Reliance” is being organised at DRDO Bhawan, New Delhi on 16 and 17 Jul 15. The seminar is being conducted in association with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and will be attended, amongst others, by Senior Officers from IN and MoD and Captains of Indian Defence Industry. The Hon’ble Raksha Mantri will inaugurate the seminar as Chief Guest. Around 300 dignitaries are expected to attend the seminar. 

Four Sessions for presentation of Strength Area papers have been scheduled in the proposed programme over the two days of the Seminar. Papers on ‘Synergy amongst stakeholders in Indigenisation’, ‘Innovation for Self Reliance’, ‘Challenges in induction of Indigenous Systems’ etc would be presented by speakers from IN, DPSUs, industry and academia, which are topics of interest for all those who would like to benefit from the growing indigenous defence industry. 

World’s first female twins to climb Mount Everest, Tashi and Nungshi Malik call on MoS (Home) Kiren Rijiju 

World’s first female twins to successfully climb Mount Everest, Ms. Tashi and Nungshi Malik called on the Minister of State for Home Affairs, Shri Kiren Rijiju here today. The siblings had scaled the highest peak in the world on May 19, 2013 at a tender age of 21 and they featured in the 60th edition of Guinness World Records. 

Within just two years and a month from that historic achievement, they have become the world’s first twins and siblings to climb the famed ‘Seven Summits’ (highest peaks in all continents), the prestigious ‘Adventurers Grand Slam’ (seven summits plus ski to North and South Poles) and ‘Three Pole Challenge’ besides setting several national and regional records. 

Lauding their achievements, Shri Rijiju said the twin teenagers should be a role model and youth icons for the young generation especially in a country tackling the challenges of female foeticide and illiteracy. He wished them success in their future endeavours.
