Pragati – Scholarship for Girls

To provide encouragement and support to Girl Child to pursue technical education “Pragati Scholarship” has been launched by the Government from the year 2014-15. The salient features of the “Pragati Scholarship” are as under:



(i) Number of scholarship per annum: 4000

(ii) One Girl per family whose family income is less than Rs.6 Lakhs per annum

(iii) The candidates will be selected on merit at the qualifying examination

(iv) The candidates should have been admitted to 1st year of the Degree or diploma programme in any of the AICTE approved institute during the academic year 2014-15 through centralized admission process of the State /Central Government.

(v) Amount of scholarship: Tuition Fee of Rs. 30000/- or at actual, whichever is less and Rs. 2000/- per month for 10 months as incidentals each year.

At present, the Government does not propose to revise the eligibility criteria and other conditions of the “ Pragati Scholarship”.

National Mission ON Teachers and Teaching

The Government proposes to launch a new Scheme Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching. The programme envisions to focus holistically on whole sector of education without fragmenting it, based on levels and sectors and also to strengthen institutional mechanisms for strengthening vertical and lateral linkages. This would consolidate and strengthen on-going programmes related to teachers and teaching through effective coordination. It will also provide an integrated platform for building synergies among all the existing initiatives and will attempt to create a comprehensive vehicle for Teacher/Faculty related programmes and schemes. The programme envisages to augment capacity at individual level and also enhance institutional infrastructure to give impetus to training of teachers at pre service and in service level.

Saransh-On Line Facility Launched by CBSE

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has launched an on-line facility titled ‘Saransh’ to the schools affiliated to it. Saransh has the following main features:

(i) It is available classes IX & X, Problem Solving Abilities (PSA) in classes IX and XI, and on achievements in Board examination in Class XII. It shows a complete comprehensive picture of Class X since 2007 and of Class XII since 2009 to the latest academic session.

(ii) It helps the schools to look at their performance in scholastic and co-scholastic areas at an aggregate level, and at the level of each student in the school.

(iii) All the performance metrics are presented through numbers as well as in charts/ graphs for easy understanding. Saransh helps schools compare their performance vis-à-vis other schools under various categories i.e., All India, Regional, State and within their school category (Government, Private, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (JNVS), Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), and Central Tibetan Schools (CTS).

There are plans to extend the same to the parents so that they can also monitor their wards performance over the years. The facility will bring school teachers and parents closer so that they can monitor the progress of the student.

Facilities to Visually Handicapped Persons

Under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Braille and large print books are provided to the visually handicapped and blind children enrolled in primary and upper primary schools. In the year 2014-15, 19652 Braille books were provided and 35045 large print books were given.

An amount of 3000/- per annum per child is provided under Inclusive Education for Disabled at Secondary Stage under the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan Programme, which can be utilised in a flexible manner, depending on the needs of each child.

Under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009, States and UTs have set up decentralised grievance redressal mechanisms, including the State Commission for Protection of Child Right (SCPCR) / Right to Education Protection Authority (REPA), to address complaints.
