Direct Assistance to Unemployed Youths from Minority Communities
            National Minorities Development and Finance Corporation (NMDFC), through its State Channelising Agencies (SCAs) nominated by respective State Governments/UT Administration, extends concessional loans to backward sections amongst notified minorities, including the unemployed youths from the minority communities, for self employment and  income generating ventures.
            As per the eligibility criterion for disbursement of loan, the candidate should belong to any of the 6 notified minority communities viz. Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains and Parsis. The Annual Family income of the person should not exceed Rs.81,000 in Rural Area and Rs.1,03,000 in the Urban area.
            Based on information received from various SCAs, the community wise break-up of persons benefitted during last 5 years (from 2009-10 to 31.10.2014) under the schemes of NMDFC is as follows:-

Implementation of Maulana Azad Education Foundation Scheme in Tamil Nadu
            Maulana Azad Education Foundation (MAEF) operates the Grants-in-aid scheme for infrastructure development of educational institutions is implemented through NGOs.
            MAEF has assisted 32 NGOs in the State of Tamil Nadu since inception from 1989-90 to 2013-14 under this scheme of Grants-in-aid of Rs. 4,80,78,200 (Rupees Four Crore Eighty Lakh Seventy Eight Thousand Two Hundred )Only. These 32 assisted NGOs indicating the purpose and amount of grant-in-aid sanctioned are enlisted.   During the last three years, MAEF has sanctioned Grants-in-aid of Rs.77,00,000 (Rupees Seventy Seven Lakh only) to five NGOs,as per details given against serial  number   28 to 32  in the list.

Higher Education for Minority Youths
      The schemes for providing higher and competitive type of education to minority students, implemented by the Ministry of Minority Affairs are-
      Free Coaching & Allied Scheme – This scheme assists students belonging to the minority communities by way of special coaching for: (a) qualifying examinations for admission in technical/ professional courses such as engineering, law, medical, management, information technology etc. and language/aptitude examinations for seeking admission to foreign universities; (b): Competitive examinations for recruitment to Group ‘A’ , ‘B’ and ‘C’ services and other equivalent posts under the Central and State governments including public sector undertakings, banks, insurance companies as well as autonomous bodies. To be eligible, the annual income of the family from all sources should not exceed Rs.3.00 lakh. Maximum course fee of Rs.20,000/- per candidate is provided. Stipend of Rs.3000/- p.m for outstation candidates and Rs.1500/- p.m for local candidates is also provided under the scheme.
      Support for minority students clearing Prelims conducted by UPSC/SSC, State Public Service Commissions (PSCs) etc. - The scheme provides financial support to the minority candidates clearing prelims conducted by Union Public Service Commission, Staff Selection Commission and State Public Service Commissions to adequately equip them to compete for appointment to Civil Services in the Union and the State Governments and to increase the representation of the minority in the Civil Services. To be eligible, the annual income of the family from all sources should not exceed Rs.4.50 lakhs. Financial assistance is provided to the eligible candidate to the tune of Rs. 50,000/- in case of clearing preliminary examination for Group A & B Gazetted posts and Rs. 25,000/- in case of Group B non-Gazetted posts.
      Padho Pardesh- interest subsidy on educational loans for overseas studies for the students belonging to the minority communities - The scheme awards interest subsidy to meritorious students belonging to economically weaker sections of notified minority communities so as to provide them better opportunities for higher education abroad and enhance their employability. To be eligible, the annual income of the family from all sources should not exceed Rs.6.00 lakh. The interest subsidy is payable for the period of moratorium for the Education Loans availed under the existing Educational Loan Scheme of Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) and restricted to students enrolled abroad for course at Masters, M.Phil and Ph.D levels.
