Union Home Minister lays Foundation Stone of CFSL Complex, Guwahati
The Union Home Minister, Shri Rajnath Singh laid Foundation Stone of the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL), Guwahati at village villageUrput, Mirza Town, Guwahati. The Chief Minister, Shri TarunGogoi presided over the function.


The campus of CFSL will come up on the 30 bighas of land and will be one of the best state of the art laboratory in the country with equipment and infrastructure facilities in the disciplines of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Explosives, Toxicology, Documents, Ballistics, Forensic Intelligence, Forensic Engineering, DNA, Computer Forensics, Psychology and Narcotic Drugs

The Union Home Minister saidthat for the first time in the history of India, the DGP Conference has been held at Guwahati. He further said that the CFSL which is first of its kind in the North Eastern region will benefit the law enforcement agencies to catch high tech criminals through quality and clinching forensic evidence. He stated that cybercrimes is a big challenge to the modern society and the forensic scientist of the CFSL Guwahati should be able to detect forensically the cyber crime and its origin. He further requested the forensic fraternity to, “participate and join hands with Government in finding solutions to the problems of North-Eastern region in handling sophisticated crimes and in providing valuable forensic solutions in a time bound manner. The Union Home Minister vocalised that quality forensic science practice should act as a medium to build the nation for a crime free society and play an important role in socio-economic development of the country. He stated the role of the Chief Minister, Shri Tarun Gogoi for his continuous support in this project including providing of 30 bighas of land.

The Chief Minister of Assam, Shri Tarun Gogoi stated that it is his earnest hope that the expansion of forensic facilities in the North-Eastern region will benefit the law enforcement agencies of state and central government and will provide research opportunities to the young and bright science students of this region.

The Union Home Secretary, Shri Anil Goswami desired that the CFSL Guwahati should become a front runner in providing forensic solutions to all complicated investigation in the NE region and should act as a Referral Centre for state FSLs to N.E. region.
