Police in Dubai have busted gangs dealing heroin

A drug dealer has been sentenced to death after being caught trying to sell heroin to an undercover police officer.

Abu Dhabi Criminal Court handed down the sentence to the Pakistani man on Tuesday after he was found guilty of trying to sell 56 capsules to a cop earlier this year.

Prosecutors said Abu Dhabi CID received a tip-off that the Pakistani was dealing drugs and an officer posed as a customer.

The dealer agreed to meet the officer in an unspecified area of the capital and brought along the capsules, which he priced at Dhs33,600.

The officer’s colleagues then burst in and arrested the man as he handed over the drugs.

During court hearings, the dealer admitted to smuggling the drugs into the country when he returned from a holiday in Pakistan.

He told the court he had not dealt drugs before and had no accomplices.

The death sentence is carried out by firing squad after final approval is given by the UAE president.

A death sentence handed down by a first instance court can be appealed within 14 days of the judgement.
