The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee has issued a message to the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) on the occasion of the 9th Statistics Day which falls on June 29, 2015. The Statistics Day commemorates the birth anniversary of late Prof. P. C. Mahalanobis. The message reads: 

“I am happy to learn that the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) is celebrating the 9th Statistics Day on June 29, 2015 commemorating the birth anniversary of Late Prof. P. C. Mahalanobis. 

An informed decision making system based on robust statistics on social sectors like health, education, poverty, employment, social backwardness, housing and environment, will pave the way for holistic development of India. The theme “Social Development” chosen for this year’s Statistics Day is appropriate in the current scenario. Let us on this day, draw inspiration from the life and career of Prof. Mahalanobis whose excellence has influenced many to adopt statistical techniques in various subjects. 

I congratulate the statistical fraternity of India and wish the Statistics Day every success.”

The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee has extended his greetings and felicitations to the Government and people of the Democratic Republic of Congo on the eve of their National Day (June 30, 2015). 

In his message to His Excellency Mr. Joseph Kabila Kabange, the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, the President has said, “On behalf of the Government, the people of India and on my own behalf, I have the pleasure to convey warm greetings and felicitations to you and to the friendly people of the Democratic Republic of Congo on the occasion of your National Day. 

I am confident that the warm and friendly relations between our two countries will be further strengthened in the years to come to the mutual benefit of our people. 

Please accept, Excellency, my best wishes for your personal health and well-being and for the progress and prosperity of the people of the Democratic Republic of Congo”.

VICE PRESIDENT RELEASES THE BOOK ‘SANGHARSH KE PRAYOG’ 

The Vice President of India Shri M. Hamid Ansari released a book entitled “Sangharsh Ke Prayog’ based on the selected speeches by Prof. Ram Gopal Yadav, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) edited by Shri Radhekrishna and Shri Dinesh Shakya at a function here today. Addressing on the occasion, the Vice President said that this book by Prof. Ram Gopal Yadav will inspire youngsters due to his social and political philosophy. Prof. Yadav’s views reflect a strong faith in the democratic process. Though he speaks less in Rajya Sabha yet whenever he speaks it is with substance. He congratulated Prof. Yadav on this book based on his speeches. 

The book is a collection of selected speeches by Prof. Ram Gopal Yadav, MP (RS) delivered at various places during past three decades including a few in Parliament.

PM writes to the Prime Minister of Finland


The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has written to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Finland, H.E. Mr. Juha Sipila, congratulating him, on his electoral victory and appointment as the Prime Minister of the Republic of Finland.

DGFT launches mobile app and revamped website 

As part of its endeavour to provide more information in electronic format and a trade facilitation measure, Directorate General of Foreign Trade(DGFT), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, has launched its mobile initiative with its Android app (“DGFT”) through which most DGFT services can be accessed while on the go. 

Commerce Secretary Shri Rajiv Kher unveiled the app which would allow exporters/importers to access the foreign trade policy and other related documents in an easy-to-use searchable format. With just one click, the trade community would be able to check the status of transmission of various authorizations and the shipping bills through the dynamic app. 

The app will allow the exporters/importers to search for ITC(HS) codes and Merchandise exports from India rates which are huge databases that are used every day by the whole trade community. Application and its data structures have been designed in-house and software development done by DeitY. The app is currently available for the Android platform. The app is just a new beginning for DGFT and many new apps to provide other services are in the pipeline. 

A new look website has also been launched making it more user-friendly and easy to navigate. DGFT website has a huge dynamic component whereby the trade community can file applications online for IEC and various other schemes of DGFT. The exporters can also see the status of their electronic Bank realization certificates in almost real-time. The website is rich in content with all documents related to Foreign Trade Policy along with a responsive online grievance redressal system. 

The mobile application and the new website will further strengthen the e-governance platform of DGFT.
