President inaugurates new Motor Garage in President’s Estate

The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee today (February 6, 2015) inaugurated a new Motor Garage and Stores for official vehicles of Rashtrapati Bhavan in the President’s Estate.


70 cars can be parked in basement while 8 cars of President’s fleet will have parking space on the ground floor of the new Garage and Stores which has been constructed as per the Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan of President’s Estate prepared by INTACH.

The project has been built in accordance with universal ‘Green Building’ norms and consists of basement and ground floor. It has a dedicated oil and grease separator plant for cleaning water before discharging to the Sewage Treatment Plant.

PM writes to King of Jordan, condemns brutal killing of Flight Lt. Muath al-Kasasbeh

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, has written to His Majesty King Abdullah-II Ibn Al-Hussein, the King of Jordan, saying he was "deeply shocked and saddened to learn of the brutal killing of Flight Lt. Muath al-Kasasbeh."

"This incident is a stark reminder that the persisting menace of terrorism and extremism continues to remain a formidable challenge, calling for a concerted and sustained response from the global community. We strongly condemn such heinous, senseless and cowardly acts," the Prime Minister wrote.

"In this hour of grief, India stands in solidarity with the bereaved family and the people and Government of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan," the Prime Minister added.

PM's interaction with economists at NITI Aayog
PM emphasizes need for cooperative federalism, favours healthy competition for development among states


The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, today interacted with eminent economists at NITI Aayog. This was the Prime Minister`s first visit to NITI Aayog.

In his opening remarks, the Prime Minister noted that one of the objectives of NITI Aayog was to establish a dynamic institutional mechanism where eminent individuals outside the Government system could contribute to policy making.

Setting the tone for the interaction, the Prime Minister emphasized on the need for cooperative federalism, and added that he favoured healthy competition for development among states.

The Prime Minister said India must develop fast, taking advantage of current global environment, to meet the aspirations of the people. The Prime Minister spoke of the Government`s recent initiatives, including the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, direct cash transfer of LPG subsidy, and Swachh Bharat.

The Prime Minister said he looked forward to the interaction and suggestions from the eminent gathering.

The Finance Minister Shri Arun Jaitley and the Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog Shri Arvind Panagariya also made brief opening remarks.

The economists present at the interaction were Shri Vijay Kelkar, Shri Nitin Desai, Shri Bimal Jalan, Shri Rajiv Lall, Shri R. Vaidyanathan, Shri Subir Gokarn, Shri Parthasarathi Shome, Shri P. Balakrishnan, Shri Rajiv Kumar, Shri Ashok Gulati, Shri Mukesh Butani and Shri G.N. Bajpai.

The economists emphasized on the need for the Government to work towards high growth, predictable tax regime, fiscal prudence and rapid infrastructure development. A large number of other suggestions were also made on various sectors of the economy.

Shri Bibek Debroy and Dr. V.K. Saraswat, Members and CEO, NITI Aayog attended the meeting. Cabinet Secretary, Secretaries of Ministry of Finance, Chief Economic Adviser and other senior officers of the PMO and NITI Aayog were also present.

AYUSH Ministry organises ‘AROGYA health fair’ at Raipur

Shri Shripad Yesso Naik, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of AYUSH and Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Government of India presided over the inauguration of the AROGYA health fair, at Raipur today. The fair was inaugurated by Dr. Raman Singh, Chief Minister, Chhattisgarh. Also present during the function were Shri Amar Agarwal, State Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Shri Ramesh Bais, Member of Parliament, Raipur, representatives from FICCI and other stakeholders of the AYUSH sector.

The Union Ministry of AYUSH in collaboration with Directorate of AYUSH, Government of Chhattisgarh and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry has organized the AROGYA RAIPUR, a four days comprehensive health fair on Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy from the 6th – 9th February, 2015 at Raipur, Chhattisgarh.

AROGYA Fairs showcase the advancements in clinical practices, research and documentation, manufacturing and the processes involved in these systems of medicine and also the medicinal plants sector. The Health Mela attracts international researchers, manufacturers and processors and people from all walks of life who evince a great interest in the traditional knowledge systems of Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani Medicine and the therapeutic effects of Yoga which is globally known as a drugless therapy system.

The Ministry of AYUSH in collaboration with the State Government of Chhattisgarh and organizational support from FICCI has selected Raipur as the venue for this prestigious event looking at its importance as a major centre for growth of AYUSH raw material. At the AROGYA Raipur, several companies of Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Siddha and Unani are participating from six States including Chhattisgarh. Regular lectures by eminent AYUSH Practitioners from the State of Chhattisgarh will also be held over next four days.

Other highlights of the Fair include free clinics and consultations for the public by eminent doctors of AYUSH systems and free distribution of medicines. In addition, national level experts on Yoga, Naturopathy, Ayurveda, Homoeopathy and Unani are delivering lectures on management of various diseases through AYUSH therapies.

The entry to the fair is free. The fair is open to public daily from 11.00 A.M. to 8.00 P.M. from 6th to 9th February, 2015.

India Invites Entrepreneurs From Lebanon to Invest in Mega Food Parks and Cold Chain

A Lebanese delegation under the leadership of Agriculture Minister of Lebanon, Mr. Akram Chehayeb met Union Agriculture Minister Shri Radha Mohan Singh in New Delhi today. Shri Radha Mohan Singh urged Lebanon’s delegation to avail investment opportunities in India in the setting up of Mega Food Parks and Cold Chain for ensuring better supply chain. Shri Singh asked Lebanon to participate in international food fairs to promote exchange of information on processing techniques including modern technologies of fruits and vegetables and new packaging techniques for food products. Institutional cooperation for exchange of information on research and development and transfer of technology and know-how can also be entered into, he added.

Mentioning Agricultural trade between the two countries, he emphasised the need for encouraging potential trade opportunities and cooperation in agriculture sector to enhance bilateral relations. He said that during the period 2013-14, India’s total export of agricultural commodities to Lebanon was US$ 69.41 million and during the same period agricultural import from Lebanon was US$ 0.47 million. Shri Singh said that Lebanon imports from other countries of the world agricultural items such as fresh potatoes and tomatoes, durum wheat and sugar in which India has potential to export to Lebanon Shri Singh requested to explore possibilities for importing of these and other items from India to enhance bilateral trade between the two countries.

Responding to India’s request to facilitate bilateral trade, Lebanon Agriculture Minister Mr. Akram Chehayeb said that Lebanon is keen to enhance bilateral relations to newer heights. In this regard, he requested to simplify visa procedures which will eventually help to strengthen bilateral trade.

Area Coverage under Rabi Crops

As per Rabi Crops data released by Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Ministry of Agriculture, total area coverage as on today under Rabi crops moves to 605.85 lakh hectares while last year’s sowing area was at 644.92 lakh hectare. Wheat`s sowing area is at 306.35 lakh hectares as compared to last year’s 315.32 lakh hectares. The area under sowing of total Coarse cereals is at 56.89 lakh hectares as compared to last year’s 60.01 lakh hectares. The area under sowing of Gram is at 85.31 lakh hectares this year while the last year’s figure was 100.51 lakh hectares. Area coverage under Total Pulses is at 142.92 lakh hectares while the last year’s sowing area coverage was 157.61 lakh hectares. Similarly sowing area under total oilseeds is at 80.14 lakh hectares as compared to 88.61 lakh hectares last year.

Initiatives like Make in India and Smart Cities coupled with liberalization of defence manufacturing has created a great demand for technology solutions and hardware in India. This along with the young population, economical workforce and business friendly government has made India a great investment destination, Shri Ravi Shanker Prasad added.

The Minister also shared the government’s vision to create more IT hubs in small towns. He shared with the Chairman, his vision of opening BPO centers in rural areas. This would propel the growth of India and bring prosperity to the lesser developed parts of India.

Digitisation of Audit : Air Force on Road to E-Governance

The Integrated Material Management Online System (IMMOLS) of the Indian Air Force (IAF) received a shot in the arm by the launch of the e-audit initiative at the Controller of the Defence Accounts (CDA) Head office in Dehradun, today. The audit function of IMMOLS, which had hitherto not been digitised, was launched formally by Shri Arvind Kaushal, Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA) along with Shri AN Saxena, Addl CGDA (IT). Air Marshal Sukhchain Singh , Air Officer-in-charge Maintenance (AOM) with Air Vice Marshal RP George, Asst Chief of Air Staff (ACAS) (Logistics) and the team of officers from Directorate of IMMOLS, Air Headquarters. The software partner M/s Tata Consultancy Services was represented by Shri KV Narayanan.

The digitisation of the audit function is a huge step in the direction of enhancing transparency and probity in various functions related to stores, financing and accounting of the logistics chain management system of the IAF. The digitised system has now replaced the manual system of originating vouchers and sending them through mail to CDA Dehradun. Now the entire information and data required by these offices for audit would be made available on the digital medium at all times.

The two key offices of Defences audit i.e the Principal Controller of Defence Accounts, Air Force (PCDA, AF) Dehradun and the Joint Controller of Defence Accounts (JCDA), Nagpur have now been provided online connectivity with the IMMOLS system of IAF.

            The tenth India Mongolia Joint Training Exercise culminated on         06 February 2015 with a grand closing ceremony held at Gwalior Military Cantonment. The exercise had commenced on 23 Jan 15.
            Brig SC Panwar of Indian Army stated that this exercise has enhanced  mutual interoperability for counter terrorism/ insurgency assignments under the United Nations mandate, as required.
            Brig Gen Enkhbaatar of the Mongolian Army addressed all participants and commended them for their enthusiasm, jointmanship and professionalism during the successful conduct of training which he said would contribute significantly towards operating jointly in an United Nations environment, whenever the need arises. He also stated that understanding of  each other’s method of carrying out operational assignments and logistics tasks was an important takeaway of the joint exercise.

‘Chintan Shivir’ to Open Dialogue with Young Officers to enable Environment Ministry A “People Centric” Ministry, Said Prakash Javadekar

Environment Ministry to Organise ‘Chintan Shivir’ of Young Officers

Shri Prakash Javadekar said, Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change would be organising “Chintan Shivir” with its officers in Southern, Northern and North-Eastern parts of India. This would be the unique and innovative initiative enabling officers from Environment, Forest, Pollution boards and Scientists from the concerned departments to participate in the shivir (conference) for two days to introspect and discuss about various aspects related to environment Ministry. He was speaking at the Press Conference in New Delhi today.

Speaking further Shri Javadekar said, Chitan Shivir is organised in order to enable young officers to share their experiences. The chintan shivir would see four sessions, as "how to ensure people`s participation -suggestions and experiences", "My innovative experiments in my area of working", “Suggestion about changes in Laws and rules governing environment, forest, Air, water, pollution, etc." and “Suggested changes in our administrative processes to deliver good governance". Chitan Shivir is an effort to make Ministry a “People Centric Ministry” said Shri Javadekar.

Chintan Shivir would be organised in Bangalore, Bhopal and Guwahati, covering states of Southern, Northern and North-eastern parts of the country respectively. In this close door event, each participating officer would be given an opportunity to speak and put forth his/her suggestions in an effective and precise manner. These suggestions/ideas would be recorded for further action/implementation.
