Election Commission Presents the First Copy of its Publication ‘India Votes’ to Honourable President of India Shri Pranab Mukherjee

Chief Election Commissioner Shri H.S. Brahma and Election Commissioner Dr. Nasim Zaidi along with the senior officials from the Commissiontoday presented the first copy of Commission’s prestigious publication ‘INDIA VOTES’ to Honourable President of India Shri Pranab Mukherjee. On the occasion, the President appreciated the efforts made by Election Commission of India to bring out the book on historic General Elections to Lok Sabha 2014.


The President congratulated the Election Commission of India for launching a concise yet in inclusive manner the successful story of the Indian elections in this document.

The book ‘INDIA VOTES’ attempts to encapsulate the most critical and outstanding features of the Indian elections for a concise yet comprehensive, fact-filled and inside-eye view of the Indian elections, with special emphasis on the 2014 Lok Sabha Election, which became famous as the largest democratic exercise on earth so far.

The book traces the details of the process of the elections right from the training of the electoral teams at ECI Headquarter to the grassroots levels, through the process of the precise and thorough planning for the process.

Six laning of Chakeri-Allahabad section of National Highway – 2 in Uttar Pradesh

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has given its approval for the six laning of the Chakeri-Allahabad section of National Highway – 2 in Uttar Pradesh.

This work will be under the National Highways Development Project (NHDP) Phase-V. The approval is in Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) (Toll) mode on Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (BOT/DBFOT) basis.

The cost is estimated to be Rs. 1999.85 crore including the cost of land acquisition, resettlement and rehabilitation and other pre-construction activities. The total length of the road will be approximately 145 kms.

The main objective of the project is to expedite the improvement of infrastructure in the state of Uttar Pradesh and also in reducing the time and cost of travel for traffic, particularly heavy traffic, plying between Çhakeri – Allahabad. The project on National Highway -2 is a part of the Golden Quadrilateral between Delhi-Kolkata. This stretch will also help uplift the socio-economic condition of entire state of Uttar Pradesh. It will also increase the employment potential to the local labourers for the project activities.

Six laning of Baleshwar-Chandikhole section of National Highway – 5 in Odisha

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has given its approval for the six laning of the Baleshwar-Chandikhole section of National Highway – 5 in Odisha.

This work will be under the National Highways Development Project (NHDP) Phase-V. The approval is in Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) (Toll) mode on Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (BOT/DBFOT) basis.

The cost is estimated to be Rs. 2296.82 crore including the cost of land acquisition, resettlement and rehabilitation and other pre-construction activities. The total length of the road will be approximately 137 kms.

The main objective of the project is to expedite the improvement of infrastructure in the state of Uttar Pradesh and also in reducing the time and cost of travel for traffic, particularly heavy traffic, plying between Baleshwar – Chandikhole. The project on National Highway -5 is a part of the Golden Quadrilateral between Chennai-Kolkata. This stretch will also help uplift the socio-economic condition of entire state of Odisha. It will also increase the employment potential to the local labourers for the project activities.

Six laning of Handia-Varanasi section of National Highway – 2 in Uttar Pradesh

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has given its approval for the six laning of the Handia-Varanasi section of National Highway – 2 in Uttar Pradesh.

This work will be under the National Highways Development Project (NHDP) Phase-V. The approval is in Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) (Toll) mode on Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (BOT/DBFOT) basis.

The cost is estimated to be Rs. 2378.59 crore including the cost of land acquisition, resettlement and rehabilitation and other pre-construction activities. The total length of the road will be approximately 72.4 kms.

The main objective of the project is to expedite the improvement of infrastructure in the state of Uttar Pradesh and also in reducing the time and cost of travel for traffic, particularly heavy traffic, plying between Handia – Varanasi. The National Highway -2 is an important link connecting Allahabad, Handia, Varanasi and other towns in south-eastern part of Uttar Pradesh. It will also increase the employment potential to the local labourers for the project activities.

Four/Six laning of Raipur-Bilaspur section of National Highway – 30/NH-130 in Chhatisgarh

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has given its approval for development of the Four/Six laning of the Raipur-Bilaspur section of National Highway – 30/NH-130 (old NH-200) in Chhatisgarh.

This work will be under the National Highways Development Project (NHDP) Phase-IV. The approval is in Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) (Toll) mode on Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (BOT/DBFOT) basis.

The cost is estimated to be Rs. 1963.88 crore including the cost of land acquisition, resettlement and rehabilitation and other pre-construction activities. The total length of the road will be approximately 127 kms.

The main objective of the project is to expedite the improvement of infrastructure in the State of Chhattisgarh and also in reducing the time and cost of travel for traffic, particularly heavy traffic, plying through Raipur, Simga and Bilaspur. The project road also caters to the major traffic leading towards industrial area in the Raipur-Bilaspur. It will also increase the employment potential for the local labourers for project activities.

Review of the incentive towards marketing and promotion services for raw sugar production

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved the continuation of the incentive scheme for marketing and promotion services of raw sugar production during current sugar season 2014-15 (October-September) for a quantity of 14 lakh MT. As the quantity is fixed, settlement of claims will be prioritized on the basis of the date of export / deemed export as certified by concerned Customs and Excise authorities.

The CCEA further approved fixed uniform rate of Rs.4000 per MT for 2014-15 sugar season. Other conditions will remain the same, as were last year except that in case of mills having alcohol production capacities, the incentive would be available if they offer to supply ethanol to OMCs under the EBP upto 25 percent of their annual production level of alcohol.

This will help sugar mills to clear the cane price dues of the farmers.

Cabinet Secretary reviews H1N1 situation in the country

No shortage of drugs

The National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC), under the chairmanship of Cabinet Secretary Shri Ajit Seth, reviewed here today the latest situation arising due to H1N1 in some states and the reported shortage of drugs or any other logistics. The Cabinet Secretary also offered them necessary Central Assistance.

The Chief Secretaries and Medical Heads of the states of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana and Delhi informed the Cabinet Secretary through video conferencing about the availability of drugs, testing kits, diagnostic labs, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), masks etc., in their states. These states reported that they have adequate number of medicines and other logistic support. Maharashtra and Haryana have requested for some medicines to augment their emergency stock which are being supplied to them by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare immediately.

The Health Secretary Shri BP Sharma informed that he has been regularly reviewing the situation through telephone and video conferencing with the states affected with H1N1 and assisting them with the requested material.

The Cabinet Secretary stressed that the states should ensure that the outbreak monitoring cells and necessary helplines function round-the-clock. The Drug Controllers should ensure availability of necessary medicines such as tablets, capsules and vaccines along with guidelines for vaccination and treatment protocol.
